These Bliss Balls, otherwise known as Protein Balls, are packed with goodness and easy to make.
They are gluten and dairy free and don’t have any added sugar. No cooking involved!
Naturally the ingredients can be varied somewhat depending on your preferences or what you have in the cupboard.
I frequently make a batch of these to bring to parties or events and I think I’ve been asked for this recipe more often than any other.
100 gm / 4 oz chopped walnuts
100 gm / 4 oz chopped almonds
2 tbsp linseed, sunflower seeds or pepitas
175 gm / 7 oz dates, pitted and chopped
100 gm / 4 oz dried apricots or figs, chopped
100 gm / 4 oz prunes, pitted and chopped
1 tbsp tahini (or peanut butter)
2 tbsp raw cacao powder plus optional extra for rolling
1 tsp ground cinnamon
2 tbsp honey or syrup
Pinch of salt
100 gm desiccated coconut for rolling
Combine the nuts and seeds in a food processor. Add the dates, apricots and prunes and mix in well. Add the remainder of the ingredients and whiz until smooth – I always do small batches to ensure the mixture is fairly smooth and starts to form a ball.
Divide into small balls and roll between slightly wet palms. Roll either in coconut or in cacao powder (yum!) and store in an airtight container for up to two weeks.
…Or freeze them and then enjoy the deliciously firm, chewy texture.
